The Super Bowl & Trading: Lessons in Preparation, Drive & Determination + Prep for Monday Feb 13th.
Prep for tomorrow and review of today.
Short again tonight given most folks are already deep into the Super Bowl game tonight. Held another live stream on Friday and felt it went pretty well again. Our plan is to keep trying this to see how it works/progress, we’re planning to stream around 05:45am Friday morning. Changed up the format a little and move the review and journaling section to the bottom so prep and details are higher.
Preparation and Grit: Lessons from the Super Bowl for Traders and Life
The annual Super Bowl is not only a showcase of athletic talent and teamwork, but it also highlights the importance of preparation, motivation, and determination in achieving success. These qualities are not exclusive to the football field, and can be applied to all areas of life, including trading.
As traders, it is crucial to constantly improve and be prepared for the ups and downs of the market. Just like a football player studies game tape and practices, traders can improve their skills by keeping a trading journal, reviewing past trades, and constantly educating themselves on market trends and changes.
Here are five things we can apply to both trading and life from the Super Bowl:
Preparation is key. Whether it's the extensive training and film study of the players, or the research and planning that goes into executing a trade, preparation is essential to success.
Mental toughness is just as important as physical toughness. Both football players and traders need to be able to handle the pressure of their respective arenas. Traders must maintain a level head and stay focused on their goals during periods of volatility.
Diversification is important. Football teams often have a variety of plays and strategies to keep their opponents guessing. Similarly, traders should have a diversified portfolio to mitigate risk and increase the chances of success.
Emotional intelligence matters. Both football players and traders must have the ability to control their emotions and stay calm under pressure. This is especially important in volatile situations.
Continuous improvement is necessary. Both the teams and players that compete in the Super Bowl are always striving to get better, and the same should be true for traders. Constantly reviewing performance and seeking new knowledge can help traders stay ahead of the game.
Book Recommendations:
"The Champion's Mind: How Great Athletes Think, Train, and Thrive" by Jim Afremow. This book is a guide to developing a winning mindset for athletes and non-athletes alike. Through an exploration of the mental habits and strategies of successful athletes, Afremow provides practical insights and exercises for achieving peak performance and reaching personal and professional goals.
"Relentless: From Good to Great to Unstoppable" by Tim S. Grover. This book explores the mindset, work ethic, and mental toughness of the best basketball players, including Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Dwyane Wade. Grover provides insights and strategies for achieving excellence and reaching one's potential in any field, including trading.
In conclusion, the Super Bowl is a testament to the power of preparation, mental toughness, and a drive for continuous improvement. These values can be applied in all aspects of life, including trading, to help achieve success and overcome challenges. So, let us take inspiration from the players and coaches and strive to be our best selves, both in trading and in life. As we enjoy the Super Bowl this weekend, let us reflect on these lessons and how we can apply them to our own lives and trades. Whether you're a seasoned trader or just starting out, there is always room for growth and improvement. By focusing on preparation, drive, and determination, we can achieve our goals and find success in all areas of our lives.
Related to these book recommendations, we would suggest checking out an Audible 30 day trial on Amazon. Yes we know it may sound cheesy and yes we are an affiliate there, but having now used the past month+ on our evening walks it’s been a game changer. We’ve been using audible to listen to various books and it’s been really fruitful.
As we’ve noted before we are building this from the ground up and our intention is to continuously add and improve. As always, we recommend doing your own research and consulting with a financial advisor before making any investment decisions, as nothing we say or suggest should be taken as a recommendation to buy, sell, or hedge any financial instruments (full disclosure here).

Symmetrical extreme readings
Always cool to see how well things play against the Symmetrical Extremes. So many nice resets in the past few days.
In a future post we will delve further into what these mean, but you can also check out things such as Disparity Index to understand some of the basics.

Risk Disclosure:
Futures and forex trading contains substantial risk and is not for every investor. An investor could potentially lose all or more than the initial investment. Risk capital is money that can be lost without jeopardizing ones’ financial security or life style. Only risk capital should be used for trading and only those with sufficient risk capital should consider trading. Past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results. Hypothetical Performance
Historical and Hypothetical results:
Historical and hypothetical performance results have many inherent limitations, some of which are described below. No representation is being made that any account will or is likely to achieve profits or losses similar to those shown; in fact, there are frequently sharp differences between hypothetical performance results and the actual results subsequently achieved by any particular trading program. One of the limitations of hypothetical performance results is that they are generally prepared with the benefit of hindsight. In addition, hypothetical trading does not involve financial risk, and no hypothetical trading record can completely account for the impact of financial risk of actual trading. for example, the ability to withstand losses or to adhere to a particular trading program in spite of trading losses are material points which can also adversely affect actual trading results. There are numerous other factors related to the markets in general or to the implementation of any specific trading program which cannot be fully accounted for in the preparation of hypothetical performance results and all which can adversely affect trading results.
